Best Investors vs WiserAdvisor

How Best Investors differs from WiserAdvisor

The short answer

WiserAdvisor is a matching service that has run since 1998. You submit a request. The service typically introduces you to two or three advisors who have joined its network. Best Investors is not a matching service. It republishes public SEC IAPD feeds as firm, advisor, and office pages.

Use WiserAdvisor when you want a short list of introductions and someone else to pick the names. Use Best Investors when you want to browse registered firms near a zip and read the Form ADV answers yourself.

What they do

WiserAdvisor presents itself as an independent matching service. A visitor describes needs (planning, retirement, taxes, and similar). The service assigns participating advisors, often two or three. Those advisors receive the request and can contact the visitor.

WiserAdvisor is a brand of Respond.com Inc. Respond is registered with the SEC as an investment adviser. WiserAdvisor’s own site states that it refers people to participating professionals and does not manage investor assets. Advisors pay to be in the network. The consumer does not pay WiserAdvisor for the match.

WiserAdvisor acquired Indyfin, a related advisor-marketing product. Indyfin is not the IAPD census. For the category view, see Best Investors vs advisor matching services.

The network is not the full set of SEC and state-registered advisers. It is the set of firms that chose to pay for these introductions. Third-party comparisons of matching services note that WiserAdvisor’s published screen covers licensing and records, not a fee-only-only rule. Confirm fiduciary status with the firm you meet.

What Best Investors does

Best Investors downloads the public IAPD bulk feeds (SEC firms, state firms, and individuals). The homepage states coverage of 35,000+ registered firms and 600,000+ investment professionals.

A firm profile shows Form ADV Part 1A with item codes such as 5F(2)(c) (regulatory AUM) and 5G(1) (financial planning). Published codes link to the Form ADV guide. Search sorts nearby offices by distance. Pro listings ($9.99/month) sort first in search and directories. That is advertising.

The on-site contact form goes to one listing. It is not a two-or-three-way lead.

WiserAdvisor reduces a large market to a few introductions. Best Investors leaves the full filing set on the page and does not pick three winners for you.

If WiserAdvisor names a firm, open that firm on Best Investors and read Item 11 and Item 5 next to other nearby listings.

When to use each

  • Use WiserAdvisor when you want two or three introductions from a long-running matching network and you are willing to take a call from those participants.
  • Use Indyfin only if you are looking at that related marketing product, not as a substitute for IAPD.
  • Use Zoe if the filter you want is a fee-only fiduciary network. See Zoe Financial.
  • Use Best Investors to see registered advisers near you, compare reported AUM and services, or look up a CRD-style filing on one URL.
  • Use both. Take the introductions, then read the same names on Best Investors before you hire anyone.

Limits

Best Investors is not a regulator and not legal advice. A clean profile here is not a government endorsement.

Form ADV answers are self-reported. Best Investors does not audit AUM or rewrite Item 11.

Pro placement can put a paid listing above a closer unpaid listing. Distance is still the geographic sort. Pro is applied after that fetch.

Best Investors does not run WiserAdvisor’s request flow and does not promise two or three outbound calls.
