Best Investors vs advisor matching services

How Best Investors differs from Matching services

The short answer

Matching services use a quiz to connect you with one to three advisors who pay for the introduction. This page is the category. Separate articles cover WiserAdvisor, Zoe Financial, Datalign, Unbiased, and SmartAsset. Best Investors is not a matching service. It publishes the SEC and state adviser census as searchable firm, advisor, and office pages.

Use a matching service when you want introductions selected for you. Use Best Investors when you want to browse the registry and read Form ADV yourself.

What they do

Advisor matching services collect your preferences through a questionnaire (assets, goals, location) and then introduce you to advisors who match your profile. The services are free to consumers because advisors pay for the leads or ongoing revenue sharing.

WiserAdvisor (and related Indyfin) typically sends two or three participating advisors. Zoe Financial matches into a fee-only fiduciary network and is paid by the hired adviser. Datalign emphasizes one firm and discloses a referral-fee auction when matches tie. Unbiased sends one professional and also offers a browse directory on its own site. SmartAsset is the media-site version of the same three-match idea.

These platforms do not publish the full IAPD census. They work with advisor networks that pay for leads.

What Best Investors does

Best Investors downloads the public SEC IAPD and state regulatory feeds and publishes them as a searchable directory. Coverage includes 35,000+ registered firms and 600,000+ investment professionals across the United States.

Each firm profile shows Form ADV Part 1A answers with item codes such as 5F(2)(c) (regulatory AUM) and 5G(1) (financial planning). Search sorts nearby offices by distance. Claimed owners can receive questions through the site. Pro listings ($9.99/month) sort first in search and directories and display a Pro badge.

The contact form is inbound to one firm. It is not auctioned to multiple advisors as a lead.

When to use each

  • Use a matching service when you prefer a guided process and a phone call.
  • Use WiserAdvisor or SmartAsset for two or three names.
  • Use Datalign or Unbiased for one introduction.
  • Use Zoe Financial when the fee-only fiduciary network is the filter you want.
  • Use Best Investors to compare firms yourself and read Form ADV.
  • Use both if a matcher names someone and you want that filing next to other nearby listings.

Limits

Best Investors is not a regulator and not legal advice. A clean profile here is not a government endorsement.

Form ADV answers are self-reported by the adviser. Best Investors does not audit AUM figures or verify Item 11 disclosures.

Best Investors does not screen for specific credentials like CFP. It shows what firms report in their filings, not quality assessments.

Pro placement means a paid listing can appear above a closer unpaid listing. This is advertising, not a ranking by qualification or performance.

Best Investors does not provide the guided questionnaire or introduction service that matching platforms offer. It requires self-directed search and outreach.
