Datalign is an SEC-registered matching platform. You complete a questionnaire. Datalign’s consumer site says it connects you with one advisory firm. Best Investors does not pick one firm for you. It republishes the public IAPD feeds as firm, advisor, and office pages you can search.
Use Datalign when you want a single introduction and will take that call. Use Best Investors when you want to compare registered firms yourself and read Form ADV on the profile.
Datalign Advisory’s Form CRS and brochure describe a referral marketplace. Consumers answer questions (residence, assets, income, services, risk). Datalign matches them to participating advisers that passed Datalign’s screen (registration, disclosures, services). Datalign states it does not manage investor assets.
The consumer does not pay Datalign. Participating advisers pay a referral fee for the introduction, whether or not you hire them. Datalign’s own disclosures state a conflict: when more than one participating adviser is equally suitable, the introduction is prioritized by an auction on the referral fee. Datalign also states it may introduce up to three participating advisers in some cases, and that each of those advisers pays a fee.
Datalign’s homepage emphasizes one match and a fiduciary framing. The legal file is the place to read the auction and the “up to three” language. This page is not Datalign’s Form CRS.
Best Investors ingests IAPD XML (SEC firms, state firms, individuals) and geocodes offices. The homepage states 35,000+ firms and 600,000+ professionals.
A firm page shows Part 1A item codes. Item 11 is the disclosure checklist. Search is distance-first. Pro ($9.99/month) then sorts paid listings first inside the fetched set. That is a disclosed ad.
Nobody on Best Investors wins an auction for your zip search. A contact form is a message to one listing you chose.
| Feature | Datalign | Best Investors |
|---|---|---|
| Start | Questionnaire, then a match. | Open search and directory pages. |
| How many firms | One on the consumer site. CRS allows up to three. | The feed, then distance and Pro. |
| Who pays | Participating advisers pay per introduction. | Free browse. Pro is a monthly listing sort. |
| Tie-break | Datalign discloses a fee auction among equal matches. | No auction. Pro badge is the paid override. |
| Form ADV | Not shown as the product. | Item-coded panel plus explainers. |
Both sites have a paid-placement conflict. Datalign’s conflict is a referral auction among participating firms. Best Investors’ conflict is Pro sort on a public census. Neither conflict is a quality score.
If Datalign names a firm, look that CRD up here. Read Item 11. Then look at the next unpaid office on the map.
Best Investors is not a regulator and not legal advice.
Filings are self-reported. Best Investors does not audit AUM.
Pro can place a paid listing above a closer unpaid listing.
Best Investors does not run Datalign’s questionnaire, auction, or one-match flow.
Datalign’s auction language and match counts live in Datalign’s CRS and brochure. Those filings change. Cite Datalign for Datalign.
