FINRA BrokerCheck is the official tool for checking brokers and many dual-registered representatives from the Central Registration Depository (CRD). Best Investors covers investment advisers from SEC IAPD XML feeds. Different professional universes.
Use BrokerCheck for brokers and dual-registered reps. Use Best Investors for pure investment advisers (RIAs) and state-registered advisers.
BrokerCheck is FINRA's public search tool for broker-dealers and registered representatives. The database draws from the CRD system. Each professional record shows employment history, exams passed, and regulatory disclosures. This is the official source for broker records.
The site is built for name lookup of a specific broker or firm. Someone enters a name or CRD number to verify credentials or check for customer complaints, regulatory actions, or criminal history.
BrokerCheck does not rank professionals. It does not sell placement. It shows the regulatory file as reported to FINRA.
Best Investors downloads public IAPD feeds (SEC firms, state firms, and individuals) and builds them into searchable organization, individual, and location records. The homepage reports coverage of 35,000+ registered firms and 600,000+ investment professionals across the United States.
On a firm profile, Form ADV Part 1A answers appear with item codes such as 5F(2)(c) (regulatory AUM) and 11A(1) (legal or regulatory events). Each code links to a Form ADV explainer. Search sorts nearby offices by distance. Claimed owners can take questions through the site. Pro listings ($9.99/month) sort first in search and directories and show a Pro badge.
Individual pages come from the IAPD investment adviser representative feed, not from BrokerCheck records.

The records should not overlap much. A pure RIA appears in Best Investors but not BrokerCheck. A pure broker appears in BrokerCheck but not Best Investors. A dual-registered representative may appear in both systems under different record types.
Best Investors is not a regulator and not legal advice. A clean profile here is not a government endorsement.
Form ADV answers are self-reported by the investment adviser. Best Investors does not audit AUM figures or investigate Item 11 disclosures.
Pro placement means a paid listing can appear above a closer unpaid listing in search results. Distance is still the geographic sort after the Pro fetch. Read that as advertising, not as a quality ranking.
Best Investors covers investment advisers only. It does not replace BrokerCheck for checking brokers, registered representatives, or dual-registered professionals in their broker capacity.
