Best Investors vs Unbiased

How Best Investors differs from Unbiased

The short answer

Unbiased is a matching platform (and a browse directory) for people in the United States. You answer questions. Unbiased pairs you with one professional from its network and shares your details with that match. Best Investors is not that matcher. It republishes public IAPD feeds as firm, advisor, and office pages.

Use Unbiased when you want one introduction and a booked first call. Use Best Investors when you want to search the registered census and read Form ADV without handing a lead to a network.

What they do

Unbiased Inc. is registered with the SEC as an investment adviser. Its Form CRS says the advisory service on the matching platform is limited to matching consumers with financial professionals. Those professionals may be RIAs, IARs, or broker-dealers. Unbiased states it does not manage assets and is not responsible for the advice the professional gives.

The consumer does not pay Unbiased to be matched. Unbiased’s CRS states that professionals pay a per-referral fee (whether or not you hire them) and a subscription fee to be listed. Unbiased also states that this pay creates a conflict, and that it has policies so the matching engine does not consider the fees those professionals pay Unbiased.

Unbiased’s consumer FAQ says the US site is for people based in the United States, that your details go to the single matched advisor, and that you can also browse a free directory if you want to research names yourself. Marketing pages say the first consultation is free. That is Unbiased’s offer, not a Best Investors feature.

What Best Investors does

Best Investors reads IAPD firm and individual feeds. The homepage states 35,000+ registered firms and 600,000+ investment professionals.

Advisor pages show exams and prior registrations from the individual feed. Firm pages show Part 1A. For a broker record, use BrokerCheck. Best Investors is built for the adviser feeds, not as FINRA’s broker file.

Search sorts by distance. Pro ($9.99/month) sorts first in that result set. That is advertising.

You choose whom to message. Best Investors does not assign one professional and pass your phone number to that person as a paid lead.

Unbiased’s honest win is a single, scheduled introduction. Best Investors’ honest win is the filing pages for the whole feed, including firms that never bought an Unbiased subscription.

Unbiased’s CRS allows broker-dealers in the professional set. If the match is a broker, check BrokerCheck as well as this site.

When to use each

  • Use Unbiased when you want one match, a first meeting, and you accept that the professional pays Unbiased for the lead.
  • Use Unbiased’s directory (on their site) if you want to pick a name inside their network without the quiz.
  • Use Best Investors to see registered advisers near a zip, read Item 5 and Item 11, or compare firms that are not in Unbiased’s paid set.
  • Use both. After the match email arrives, open that firm on Best Investors and read the ADV panel.

Limits

Best Investors is not a regulator and not legal advice.

Filings are self-reported. Best Investors does not audit AUM.

Pro listings can appear above closer unpaid listings.

Best Investors does not operate Unbiased’s matching engine and does not promise a callback within a business day.

Unbiased’s fee and conflict language lives in Unbiased’s Form CRS. Cite Unbiased for Unbiased.
