Washington, D.C. Estate Planning Council*No Invest*Hagerstown, MD*Managing Director Senior Wealth Strategist*The Washington, DC Estate Planning Council is the DC-metro area chapter of various Estate Planning Councils around the nation. It is a professional networking group, and one of the hardest Estate Planning Councils to get into, made up of estate planning attorneys, CPAs, wealth strategists, trust officers, valuation experts, life insurance individuals (in the HNW space), and philanthropic experts (largely in decreasing order of membership size by discipline), but only those who certify that they are actively engaged in estate planning (in their respective field). The Council hosts educational and/or networking events every 1-2 months all year for its approximately 350 members, of which about 100-150 are regularly active/in attendance. The DC Council's website can be found here: https://www.wdcepc.org/, and their "about" page is here: https://www.wdcepc.org/council/about. It's a fairly sophisticated Council, as a lot of the individuals work in the HNW and UHNW space; one needs a credential and at least 3 years of experiences, and 2 letters of recommendation to get in*Director (Board Member). I have been a member of the Council so far for about.... 13 years or so, and have been co-Chair of the Membership Nomination Committee for about...6 years, best guess. I will be giving up the co-Chair committee spot to take on the Board spot*"I admit I'm still not 100% positive of the scope of engagement, however I'd be expected to attend as many of the regular events as possible; to attend the Board meetings (usually 60-90 minutes perhaps monthly or every other month); to help vote on and discuss changes to Bylaws or decision-making on behalf of the Council. The Board consists of 4 members of the Executive Committee, the Immediate Past President, and four additional Directors. Much of the Council's business is taken care of by 14 separate Committees (everything from our annual golf event, to finding speakers, or locations to meet or sponsorship), which then report up to the Board for any final decision-making. I've already been on the Council for years and it has been the avenue by which I've met (and become friends with) likely dozens of COIs over the last 13-14 years. It was an honor to be nominated to the Board, considering the size of the Council. It is not clear when my service date will end. I believe a Director role usually lasts 2 years, but if one moves up the chain to the Executive Committee (not all Directors do) with the Board, then one eventually becomes President of the Council by moving up through Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, President over a 6- year path, I believe. I probably dedicate 2-4 hours a month to Council now, on average, largely based on attending one networking/educational event (round trip) every 1-3 months. Almost all events are in the late afternoon or evening, so tends not to affect business hours much at all (sometimes leaving work at 3 or 4 for the commute). This will probably add perhaps 1-2 hours a month to that for Board meetings*6/4/2026*1 hr trade/2 non trade
