Other Businesses

Mr. Kooistra is an independent insurance agent (life and health). Mr. Kooistra may recommend these services to clients. This other business activity pays Mr. Kooistra commissions that are separate from the fees described in the firm's ADV Part 2A. This is a conflict of interest because the commissions give Mr. Kooistra a financial incentive to recommend and sell clients the insurance products. However, Mr. Kooistra attempts to mitigate any conflicts of interest to the best of his ability by informing clients that they are never obligated to purchase recommended insurance through him. Additionally, Mr. Kooistra uses the services of a third-party brokerage to obtain multiple price quotes in a proactive effort to obtain cost reductions for each client. Additionally, he informs clients that they always have the right to choose whether to act on the recommendation and are not obligated to use him for the placement of their insurance. Mr. Kooistra is presently a Vice President of the Board of Directors for ReNew Upscale Thrift Store, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization where he spends 2 hours per month. The entity and role is not investment advice related in any way.
